The Purpose of the Salado Museum & College Park is to tell the history and development of Central Texas and to provide a safe and accessible place to preserve and exhibit these items.
Since Salado was home to the Robertson family, who brought about 600 families of mostly Scottish origin to settle Texas, we try to assist those researching their Celtic roots. We try and tell the story of all Central Texans, but are best known for sponsoring Texas' oldest and finest Scottish festival. Our Gathering for the Scottish Clans & Highland Games in November is a three-day event to which all of the Scottish Clan Societies of the US are invited. It features world-class competition for Highland Dancers, as well as Pipers and Bands. We also have Scottish Athletic competition, folk singers and vendors.
Year round, in our building, we offer the "Wee Scots Shop," an exhibit wing and an auditorium which may be rented for special events. We have a permanent wing of historical memorabilia with our own artifacts as well as displays prepared by members of the Salado Historical Society. We also display fine art including paintings in our meeting hall. Past events we have sponsored have included Genealogy Workshops, a Readers and Writers Roundtable, as well as member-wide rummage sales.
Our shop sells ties and scarves in a variety of family tartans, kilt hose, sporrans, jewelry (including Clan Crest pins, Celtic cross necklaces, Celtic earrings, keychains and more), books for Texas history, local history and Scottish history, Scottish recreation swords, daggers and knives, Highland Games t-shirts, and more. We also have a service to print family history parchments, including Clan Crests.
We have been happy to rent our hall for club meetings, family reunions, wedding receptions, counseling retreats and educational seminar groups. Whatever your event The Central Texas Area Museum Scots Hall is ready to rent!
